AIMS
(What is the Group for?)
The carer support group offers support and services for the families, friends and carers of substance misusers. It is open to anyone in the local community experiencing the effects of someone else’s drug or alcohol problem. The aims of the Group’ are to create an infrastructure for carer involvement within Scunthorpe and across North Lincolnshire. Ensuring the service needs of carers are met within treatment services. This is to ensure that service provision within North Lincolnshire is appropriate to the needs of carers. The carer group will raise awareness, educate, support, guide and inform families, friends and carers of substance misusers within the community who have requested help.
OBJECTIVES
(How will we make change happen?)
- To meet, share ideas and thoughts within the group to raise awareness of substance misuse issues for a better understanding.
- To establish a support group in North Lincolnshire for the families of people who have been affected by drugs and alcohol.
- To ensure the needs of carers are considered within treatment plans and needs assessments to bring about positive change for carers and service users.
- To be a central voice for carers withinScunthorpe to highlight what is good and what is not good for carers within the treatment system.
- To use the meeting to locate individual and group training needs.
- To signpost those in need to the correct support agencies.
- To challenge public perceptions of drugs and users through information, education and community projects
